What is The Workshop.

The workshop, is actually just my oversized garage, where I like to tinker around with things.

I have had many projects out the in the shop over the years, including servicing of vehicles, cars, trucks and motorcycles. I've been known to build things for around the house, as well as for other people and/or businesses. At one point, the workshop actually became a small business. Times being as tough as they were, and being unemployed myself, I decided to start operating as a Handyman Service. I registered myself with the County of Champaign as “The Workshop”, and received my own business number.

My Own Small Business

It was official. As of March of 2009 The Workshop was now a small business. Everything was good, but after about a year or so, the need for a "Handyman" service was becoming less and less. I believe that the beginning of the school season had a great impact on my business too. Champaign - Urbana being a college town, people were just too busy with school starting up and such. Eventually, I went back to driving trucks, to pay the bills. That is what I have done most of my adult life. But, in August of 2010, I injured my back, and as a result, I can no longer drive the big trucks, operate as a handyman, or even work around my own home... at least for the present time.

Time to move on

After hearing several of my doctors suggest that I consider re-training for a new career, I have decided to go to school again. I am studying web design. I received my first taste of web design while working on a project in the shop. I have an old 1960 wooden power boat that I’ve been restoring for several years. One evening, I decided that I wanted to sort of “journalize” the progress of the restoration process.

The Journal

After a lot of searching on the internet, I discovered the “Blog Spot” by Google. I looked it over and thought wow, this is what I want to use to show the world what I was doing, and maybe connect with others that might be doing something similar. However, I wasn’t quite satisfied with the way that the page was set up, and discovered that with a few notes here and there, a lot of trial and error, I could alter the looks of the page, as well as its dimensions. I liked this. I later found out, that what I was doing was altering the html code of the page. I had a lot of fun with that blog.

The Future of The Workshop

Now, I intend to turn The Workshop into a Web Design business. You can find out more about this by following me over to my Web Design page.
